786 nhPB 535/921/C9/76 #535/921, C9/76, Marvelously select plate block collection, a highly desirable assemblage of over 220 different plate blocks (and several souvenir sheets), actually a fair portion of this collection came from James H. Gray, Jr. collection of plate blocks, which was renowned for its stellar quality, a large portion consists of commemoratives and air mails, but there are some regular issues as well starting with #535, 576 and 577 imperforates plus a complete set of the 1938 Presidentials and a few earlier, commemoratives start in the early 1920's and include a nice set of the Lexington-Concord issue, 2c Norse-American, we note a truly spectacular range of 2c "Red" plates in the finest overall quality that is sure to please the most fastidious of collectors, there are a number of sets including a wonderfully choice set of the 1932 Washington-Bicentennials, the 1934-35 perforated and imperforate National Parks and lovely sets of the 1940 Famous Americans and Overrun Countries, air posts cover a period to 1969 and have a few better earlier issues, but are missing the most valuable plates, essentially every flat plate block is a full top example and just a quick glance convinces anyone that this is not your typical plate block collection, all plates have been carefully selected for their centering, margins, color and overall high quality, o.g., an occasional lightly hinged plate block may be found but virtually all are never hinged, overall very fine-extremely fine; a lovely collection of the more modest value plate blocks in exquisite quality, certainly a wonderful basis for a plate block collection to which the more expensive plate blocks can be added. $5,010.00

SOLD for $8,500.00
Will close during Public Auction
