1545 ogc U507B image#U507B, 1 1/2c on 1c Blue on manila, die 83(A), size 10, knife 54u, wmk. 8, a pristine mint entire that was issued with an ungummed flap, crisp sharp edges, extremely fine; this surcharge type has no city types and was produced by the Post Office to stocks of 1c envelopes that were in their possession and of which there was no demand, envelopes from the public were not accepted for surcharging, the first example we offered of this rare envelope realized $4,250.00 (plus the buyer's premium) in Shreves June 2004 Collector's Series Sale when this envelope was listed but unpriced in Scott and unlisted in UPSS, the current Scott price is based on that sale and the 2004 UPSS Catalog (which came out in June) lists this envelope but does not price it; an extremely rare envelope with only four examples believed to be recorded, and missing from nearly all the major postal stationery collections (UPSS #3182).
