1203 BK Michel MH #10 imageMichel MH #10, 1919 3M Germania complete booklet with red on orange cover with number 7, containing one pane of six of each of the 5pf Green, 10pf Red and 15pf Violet values, plus a combination pane of two 10 pf and four 15pf values, and another combination pane of two 5pf and four 7 1/2pf values, this is the scarce earlier booklet produced in February with the two values in the bottom right corner of the combination panes, a similar and much more common booklet was produced in June and has the two values in the bottom left corner of the combination panes, panes separated by four sheets of interleaving with advertising or postal instructions, panes are well centered and fresh with only a few nibbed perfs. in manufacturing, o.g., n.h. though the 5pf pane has a small moisture spot on one stamp, covers are exceptionally fresh and clean, choice very fine and elusive booklet. 1207 BKS Michel MH #16S imageMichel MH #16S, 1925 2M Promotional Specimen complete booklet issued for the 1925 New German Eagle issue, being the first booklet issued after the currency reform, all aspects of the booklet are the same except for the panes themselves, including the same black on pale red cover with numeral 2 and the three sheets of interleaving with Leipzig advertisements for life insurance, however the panes do not have the stamp designs, rather on each stamp is 6.5mm numeral in the denomination and color of the issued stamp, two panes of ten of the "5" Green and one pane of ten of the "10" Orange red, each of the panes is well centered and fresh having full unclipped perforations all around, o.g., n.h., covers are clean with only minor wear, the front cover with some bends, mostly by the staple from opening, very fine. These promotional specimen booklets were produced as early as Michel MH #2, the Germania issues being issued without gum, the later issues with gum. The advertising whether on a label, cover or interleaving was complete as would be found on the issued booklet and apparently this was the purpose of the booklets as only ten to fifteen were sent to each advertising district, thus the number printed was very small. Furthermore they were not intended for public issuance and were supposed to be returned to the main Post Office Department in Berlin. There are twelve different booklets, such as this, that have been documented to be in collector's hands according to Michel. How many of each of these issues are available is not known, but of these twelve different, none of them ever appear on the market except in the rarest circumstances, so it is safe to assume that only two or three of each are known. This and the Hindenburg issue (see lot 1227) are the only examples we have ever seen in over 30 years. (Image) Est. 3,000-4,000
