1066 TC R133TC image#R133TC, $500.00 Persian Rug, black master die trial color proof on India on original card backing, a wonderfully detailed proof of this intricate design in an intense black color, the master die is characterized by having all the elements of the design in perfect alignment as they were intended to be by the designer, but are rarely found that way when they are printed in the three different colors of the issued stamp, this proof is in stamp size with well clear even margins all around, slight adherence on the reverse, probably from having been mounted on another card, extremely fine; this is the unique example of a master die proof of this popular revenue, not just in black but in any color, a wonderful opportunity to acquire an indispensable proof for an exhibition collection of this most important revenue issue; ex-Joyce. 1067 TC R133ATC image#R133ATC (Turner Essay 110a), $5,000.00 Yellow orange, green and black, large die trial color proof on India, mounted on full 122x167mm card, with complete manufacturer's imprints at both left and right and security punch in the India, possessing truly outstanding freshness and cleanliness, with radiant rich colors on bright white papers, extremely fine.The $5,000.00 Internal Revenue stamp was actually designed and approved for production but was never issued. The only examples that are known of this value are in proof form, all but one being on India and largely in differing shades of the orange and green. The total known is twenty-five with ten residing in the National Postal Museum of the Smithsonian. Of the total only five examples have full imprints and of those only three are available to collectors. Two of those are in the yellow orange, green and black combination. The example offered here is the finer of the two and the finest of any $5,000 Revenue in private hands.An incomparable trial color proof of this highest denomination 19th century revenue stamp. Not only because of its extreme rarity, but also because of its pristine quality, this exquisite proof would certainly provide the centerpiece to a great collection of United States Revenues; 1991 PF certificate as a Turner Essay 110 from before it became listed in the Trial Color section of the Scott catalog; ex-Joyce. 1068 TC R133ATC image#R133ATC (Turner Essay 110a), $5,000.00 Orange, green and black, large die trial color proof on India, 77x122mm, showing the first line of the two-line inscriptions at each side, colors are bright and fresh with the orange and green being in lighter shades than the approved colors, thus this is a trial color though not one of the combinations specifically listed in Scott, small India flaws virtually all in the margins including a tiny closed tear in the top margin, otherwise very fine and possessing spectacular appearance; of the India proofs off card all have similar flaws and repairs, this being in superior condition to most; only three $5,000.00 Revenue proofs in private hands have full imprints, this being the only other that shows any significant portion of the imprints; certainly an important item for the revenue collector.
