COLLECTION AND LARGE LOTS
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
895 og/nhO 1/921, C1/QE4 #1/921, C1/QE4, The desirable balance of the Fred Rosenthal collection, being a worthwhile assemblage of well over 650 different items (largely singles, coil pairs and souvenir sheets) all housed in mounts in a single album, covering the period of 1847 through 1944, essentially being the modest to medium catalog value items that could not be offered as individual lots, but are nevertheless mostly in the same nice quality as all of his hundreds of individual lots found throughout this catalog, the 19th century is a bit sparse, most of which are used until 1873 (including a nice pen cancelled #1) and thereafter the entire collection is exclusively mint, we note some attractive used 1869 Pictorials to the 15c and Bank Notes to the 90c value, the collection really begins to pick up with a nice range of Bureau issues, 1893 Columbians to the 30c, almost all of the early 20th century commemoratives, and there is real strength and value in all of the various Washington-Franklin issues, including coil pairs (some dubious pairs have not been counted in our evaluation), many of the stamps of this period have been selected for their color, freshness and centering, the 1920 to 1944 period is quite representative, including all souvenir sheets, the back-of-the-book issues for the same period are present, with air posts, special deliveries, Offices in China, parcel posts and even a couple of Guam stamps; condition overall is much better than usual for the balance of a collection, although there is the occasional small flaw or regummed stamp, the majority of the stamps are quite attractive, well centered and fresh, mint stamps largely are o.g., many being never hinged, overall fine-very fine or better; perfect for a retailer, internet seller or for the collector wishing to start a new collecting area; catalog value is estimated to be well in excess of $35,000.00. 896 O 7/1233, C1/QE4 #7/1233, C1/QE4, Balance of the "Ganymede" used collection in a single album containing the issues to about 1960, a significant portion of the value is found in the 19th century issues starting with the 1851-57 imperforate and perforated issues, the Civil War issues are collected by value and have a nice range of grilled issues such as a presentable 3c "C" grill and the "E" and "F" grills are virtually complete for all values, 1869 Pictorials are complete, plus an excellent range of Bank Notes including six different grilled values, the commemoratives are very comprehensive for the period with Columbians complete less only the $3.00 and the Trans-Mississippis are complete, the 20th century is extensive only lacking some rarities, of interest is a rather extensive selection of coil singles, air mails lack only a couple of Zeppelin values, the special deliveries and parcel posts including dues are complete, plus his collection of postage dues is very comprehensive lacking only a few of completion, condition varies being rather mixed in the 19th century, especially with some of the higher catalog value items, however many of the more modest values are quite nice and the vast majority have at least fine-very fine appearance; a collection well worth examining with significant catalog value totaling at least $50,000.00. 898 nh Exceptionally clean balance of the David L. Jarrett collection of exclusively mint never hinged stamps from 1890 through 1974, with a few later issues also present, housed in two Lighthouse hingeless albums with slipcases, there are only a handful of stamps before 1909, some lower-value Washington-Franklin heads including coil pairs, the collection starts to become well-filled in 1920, with commemoratives just about complete from there, also good value in regular issues, some air posts and other back-of-the-book, Mr. Jarrett collected these lower cataloging stamps the same way in which he collected his higher value stamps that are offered throughout this sale, with emphasis on centering, freshness of color, and pristine gum, therefore there are many stamps that would retail for many multiples of their modest catalog values, very fine-extremely fine throughout; a remarkably fresh collection with numerous gem stamps; catalog value is through 1938. $3,800.00
