523 og/nh 388 image#388, 2c Carmine coil, perf. 12 vert., a magnificent quality mint pair of this truly rare and often faked coil, with 3mm spacing providing huge margins all around and being incredibly well centered within these expansive borders, bright fresh color and with a sharp detailed impression, its reverse is equally impressive, featuring clean pristine o.g. that is never hinged on the left stamp and with just a trace of a hinge mark on the right stamp, an extremely fine gem; unquestionably one of the finest #388 pairs in existence and this very pair was one of the highlights of the Wade Saadi collection which we were privileged to sell in our 1994 Premier Sale; 1988 PF certificate. 524 O 389 image#389, 3c Deep violet, Ty. I, "Orangeburg Coil", perf. 12 vert., a marvelous used example of this rare and sought after coil, which was issued specifically for use by the Bell Pharmaceutical Co. to mail their samples to doctors, the centering is remarkably nice, being considerably better than most of the small population that exists, additionally its color is the characteristic deep violet shade, neat and unobtrusive wavy line machine postmark, there are single mild corner creases in each top corner (which are quite endemic to these), neither of which affect this stamp's exceptional very fine appearance; a highly desirable example of this major 20th century coil rarity; 1959 APS and 1980 PF certificates; ex-Lyons, "Ganymede".
