15 O 140 image#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, the used example offered here is, in all likelihood, the finest quality used Twelve Cent Grilled Bank Note in existence, as this magnificent stamp possesses every physical attribute that is typically lacking on other known examples, including being absolutely perfectly centered amid enormously large margins which are terribly uncharacteristic of this series in general and of this value in particular, its color is incredibly deep and rich (not the pale shade so often seen), and its perforations all around are uniformly intact and long, all beautifully postmarked with a desirable and neat target cancel that complements its overall eye appeal, the only example we have ever seen worthy of the lofty grade of superb; while a few attractive #140's have surfaced on the market in recent years, none comes close to the phenomenal quality that this wonderful stamp enjoys; 1971 PF certificate as a pair, and 1986 and 2001 PF certificates as a single; ex-Sheriff, Hinrichs.
