461 og J7 image#J7, 50c Brown, jumbo-margined example, being quite well centered, bright color and a sharp impression, full o.g., relatively lightly hinged, very fine; 1991 PF certificate. (Image) $600.00

462 nh J8 image#J8, 1c Deep brown special printing, fresh premium example of this extremely rare special printing, with strong rich color and a prooflike impression, both the hallmarks of the special printings, centered to the right as most known examples are, but even so, much better centered than the vast majority, full unblemished original gum which has never been hinged, a feature not often found on the special printings as many lack gum altogether, nearly very fine for this; despite the published issuance numbers, an extensive study of the Postage Due Special Printings by William E. Mooz has documented that these numbers are very much in error, he contends the vast majority of this value, believed to have been sold as special printings, were in fact the normal printings, furthermore of the small fraction that were indeed special printings, a large portion of those were destroyed, experience has confirmed his study as this particular value seldom comes to market and the prices realized under those rare occasions have established this as one of the rarest of the Postage Due Special Printings, sharing that distinction with the 3c value; the example offered here is very similar to the William S. Floyd example which realized $15,950.00 (including buyer's premium) in our October 2001 sale, when the catalog value was only $12,500.00; 1994 PSE certificate (specifically stating never hinged). (Image) $19,000.00

SOLD for $13,500.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
463 og J9 image#J9, 2c Deep brown special printing, a marvelously fresh and crisp mint example of this incredibly rare stamp, being in a condition which places it among the very finest available, possessing excellent centering amid uncharacteristically large margins, strong rich color and a razor-sharp impression on bright paper, full o.g. that has been lightly hinged, extremely fine; any Two Cent Postage Due Special Printing is a major rarity, but to find one still retaining its original gum and in premium quality is an almost impossible challenge; the Scott catalog lists the quantity issued at 1,361, but it is widely accepted that only a tiny fraction of this number were actually sold as Special Printings; 1970 and 1995 PF certificates. (Image) $9,500.00

SOLD for $13,000.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
464 ng J10 image#J10, 3c Deep brown special printing, a magnificent unused example of not only an enormously rare stamp, but in a quality which places it among the finest, if not the finest, of the few known copies, as all of the postage due special printings are notorious for being found faulty and poorly centered, neither of which is true with this exceptional stamp, possessing near perfect centering within extravagant margins that would be exceptional for any postage due, let alone this rare special printing, bright distinctive special printing color and prooflike impression, completely sound, extremely fine and exceedingly choice; this is by far the finest example we have ever seen, and it also ranks as only the second sound example out of a mere four different examples of this major rarity that we have ever offered; only 436 were issued, but only a tiny fraction of this number still survive; 1950 and 1995 PF certificates. (Image) $19,000.00

SOLD for $14,000.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
465 ng J11 image#J11, 5c Deep brown special printing, an absolutely gorgeous appearing unused example of this notoriously difficult rarity, being fabulously well centered and far better than the vast majority of the small population of only 249 stamps that were issued, large balanced margins surrounded by full even perforations, fresh rich color and a razor-sharp impression, very faint edge thin at left, not detracting in any way from the extremely fine appearance of a stamp that virtually never has a facial presentation as attractive as this; clear 1946 and 1988 PF certificates; ex-Cole. (Image) $9,500.00

SOLD for $6,500.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
466 ng J12 image#J12, 10c Deep brown special printing, an incredibly choice appearing unused example of this postage due rarity, without gum as is so often the case with the Special Printings, however this stamp is far above the norm, as it possesses virtually perfect centering amid large even margins, strong distinctive color, small thin spots that are quite typical of these issues and in no way detract from this stamp's exceptional and extremely fine appearance; with only 174 issued (and fewer surviving) this is certainly one of the most attractive available; 1953 and 1995 PF certificates. (Image) $4,500.00

SOLD for $2,200.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
467 og J13 image#J13, 30c Deep brown special printing, an extraordinary quality example of this postage due rarity, possessing exceptional centering for this, large margins, strong color and a crisp impression, full o.g., lightly hinged, very fine and choice; exceedingly elusive in this premium quality, being both completely fault free and retaining its original gum, unlike so many of the postage due special printings; only 179 issued; 1991 PF certificate. (Image) $4,500.00

SOLD for $6,000.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
468 ng J14 image#J14, 50c Deep brown special printing, an exceedingly rare sound unused example of this special printing, unusually well centered and possessing large to extra-large margins, quite unlike the vast majority of the postage due special printings, plus free from the many faults often associated with these challenging issues, rich color, extremely fine; only 179 were thought to have reached the public; 1957 and 1992 PF certificates; ex-Engle. (Image) $4,500.00

Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
