410 O 482A image#482A, 2c Deep rose imperforate, Ty. Ia, Schermack Ty. III perforations, used as always (there is one uncancelled stamp known which has Schermack perforations trimmed completely off), light and unobtrusive wavy line machine cancel, full Schermack perforations at right, strikingly intense color in a deep rose shade distinctive only to this type, large margins on three sides, close but clear margin at left, small thin spot at bottom right, otherwise quite fine. This stamp was issued specifically for use by the Schermack Company in their own patented stamp-affixing machines. Much like the 1908 Four Cent Brown Imperforate, the stamp dispensing and affixing machines applied the stamps one at a time, often slicing the stamps not on the oblong perforations as intended, but typically well into the design and usually cutting off the perforations on at least one side. The experimental nature of both stamps, issued without advance notice, resulted in few collectors saving and seeking out these rarities. This is an important 20th century rarity of which only 38 examples are recorded, a large number of which have the Schermack perforations trimmed off on one side and often centered well into the design. With select examples of this rarity (of which very few are known) topping $50,000.00 or more at auction, this may very well be one of the more affordable examples to come on the market for quite some time. Accompanied by a 1993 PF certificate. (Image) $50,000.00

SOLD for $42,500.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
411 nhbl 485 image#485, 5c Carmine error imperforate single error in a magnificent quality block of nine, boasting absolutely enormous and perfectly balanced margins all around, having been meticulously cut out of a sheet so that equal small portions of all sixteen adjoining stamps show, marvelously fresh overall, with gloriously rich color, pristine o.g., never hinged, single 2c stamp with natural gum inclusion speck mentioned solely for accuracy only, superb. It has been recorded by George B. Sloane that a total of 48 uncut imperforate sheets of 400 of plate no. 7942 were sold out of the New York City Post Office, each sheet containing a single error and a double error, making 48 the maximum number of either error block and certainly less than that number are available today. One of the most spectacular quality examples of this important and highly popular error rarity we have ever had the pleasure to offer in our auctions. Accompanied by a 1995 PF certificate. (Image) $32,500.00
