Aug. 28th, 1879, letter talks about his arrival from Deer Lodge, describes his wounds at the battle of Big Hole and reflects on Nez Perces escape; General Gibbon was in command at the battle of Big Hole, and was also a distinguished Civil War commander, was at Grant's side when Lee surrendered and was part of Lincoln's honor guard when the Gettysburg address was delivered, the letter has been neatly affixed to a backing, very fine and interesting.
