223 ogP PR1/125 #PR1/125, Extensive and valuable mint Newspaper stamp collection of over 100 largely different (includes three or four used), rarely is such a nice array of these issues found in a single collection, starts with all the large first designs cplt. including some extra shade varieties, the 1875 Hard Paper issue is complete to the $3.00 plus the $12.00, four low values of the Special Printings are present, plus complete sets of both the 1879 and 1885 American Bank Note Co. soft paper printings, Bureau printings include most of the 1895 unwatermarked new designs, also includes plate proofs on card of #PR94-32P4, condition varies as is quite normal for these scarce and large size stamps, many have original gum, but as often is found, regummed and without gum will be found throughout, centering varies on the hard paper issues but thereafter very presentable with most fine-very fine; an exceptional collection with considerable care given to correct identification and a wonderful base to start with, into which can be added the very scarce issues as they become available; accompanied by four PF or APS certificates. 45,650.00

224 ogO The extraordinarily valuable balance of the largely mint Dr. Claiborne Johnson, Jr. United States collection, neatly housed in four Scott Platinum albums with dust cases, consisting of hundreds of largely different stamps, the significant portion of the value is found in the first volume, but volumes 2-4 are virtually complete for the period from 1929-1992, all fresh mint, o.g., n.h. except for a very few earlier issues, volume 1 starts with the Postmaster's Provisionals of New York and Providence cplt., the early 19th century have a concentration of used with some mint and unused interspersed, includes three 5c and a 10c 1847 Issue plus a 10c 1875 Reproduction, the 1851 imperforates and 1857 perforated issues are very well represented showing different, and often scarce, types as a #16 with PF certificate, the perforated issues are particularly comprehensive, The Civil War issues include a mint 3c Brown rose and used 10c Green of the "August" issues, and the 1861-62 regular issues are virtually all present, sometimes with two or three examples showing shades, nice selection of grilled issues with the "E" and "F" grills complete less only the 90c "F" grill, 1869 Pictorials are complete, plus numerous nice Bank Note issues, with the 1887-88 issues the collection rather dramatically changes to mint including Small Bank Notes cplt., Columbians cplt. mint except for $3.00 which is present used, nearly all the Bureau issues are present with only a few high values used and Trans-Mississippi issues are complete mint,the 20th century is very comprehensive starting with 1902-03 Regular issues cplt. mint, nearly all the major sets of the Washington-Franklin issues are complete except for bluish papers, also includes many coil singles with some pairs and line pairs, from the 1922-26 Regular issues nearly all the normal issues are present mint, then comprehensive air mails including the 1930 Zeppelins, plus special deliveries and parcel posts cplt., numerous postage dues and the Offices in China are nearly cplt., this litany of desirable issues represents extraordinarily high catalog value, condition varies with the period, early 19th century is likely to have small faults in the better values, however many have been collected with attractive appearance in mind, early issues may be without gum or regummed, as the collection proceeds into the 20th century most have original gum, and there is a fair amount of never hinged material as well, centering ranges from fine to very fine for the most part; a wonderful collection with many desirable stamps for the collector or dealer alike, and examination will prove rewarding; accompanied by 53 certificates, mostly of the PF, APS and PSE. 225 ogO United States Possessions substantial mint and used collection, contains hundreds of different stamps in a Scott Specialty album with each country well represented less only Puerto Rico, Canal Zone is quite comprehensive starting with a mint #3 and is quite complete mint or used lacking only a few very scarce values, Danish West Indies is similarly extensive lacking very few, we note a lovely used #4 and a nice array of Numerals with different shades and inverted frames, Guam is complete mint less the two scarce Type II's, there is good value in Hawaii starting with a mint #6 and including eleven mostly unused Numerals (seven with PF or APS certificates), plus all but a few of the later issues, Philippines is another important and valuable section with all of the Bureau overprints complete except the unwatermarked 50c, mostly mint, and mint and used of the 1903-04 Overprints except the 8c and $5.00, but including a nice mint $2.00 Dark blue of which only 695 were issued, rest is quite comprehensive as well, including many high values with the 2P and 4P first air mails, finally a nice and nearly complete mint collection of Ryukyu Islands to 1972, condition varies on the 19th century issues with some faults to be found in issues like the Hawaiian Numerals, but the vast majority of the material is quite clean, for the most part o.g. or used, overall fine-very fine; a valuable collection and an excellent base to build upon.
