2306 c 3 var. image#3 var., 1850 3kr Red, hand-made paper, Ty. IIIa, Tokay roulette, a magnificent left sheet-margin single, possessing full and well chiseled roulettes all around including vertical roulettes between the stamp and a full 5mm of additional sheet margin at left, most amazing is that the stamp itself is virtually perfectly centered within these wide even margins and full roulettes, a phenomenon that is seldom found on any value of these rare roulettes, unusually fresh with bright clear color and a sharp detailed impression, neatly and attractively tied to clean 1853 folded cover by complete and clear "Tokay/12 5" c.d.s., posted to Debreczin where backstamped the next day, an extremely fine gem; this provisional method of separation is one of the earliest of any country, originating in the Hungarian towns of Homonna and Tokay by the postmasters of those towns, very few covers are known with these issues and the vast majority are single frankings; though the 3kr is the most "common" of this decidedly rare issue, the condition of this cover is a rarity in itself, possessing sheet-margin, centering and overall attractiveness that would be hard to improve upon; among the finest if not the finest known example of this rarity available; signed Friedl and accompanied by 2001 Ferchenbauer certificate describing this as a select "Prachtstueck"; ex-Gelber and Ujlaki (Ferchenbauer #3, €12,500+).
