723 O S.G. #13c imageS.G. #13c, 1861 1p Pale milky blue "Wood Block" error of color, an amazing sound used example of one of the great rarities of the British Empire, this attractive stamp possesses lovely color in the pale milky blue shade in which the 4p value was normally issued, on bright white laid paper, margins are all well clear and uniformly even, neatly complimented by a light and distinct "CGH" triangular cancel, all giving this very fine stamp a wonderful appearance unlike so many of the known examples; the "Wood Blocks" are some of the most interesting and difficult issues of this country, and the errors of color are among the great rarities of classic philately, the vast majority are found with faults and/or the margins impinging on the design, it is highly unusual to find an example that not only is sound but is as attractive as the stamp offered here, certainly worthy of the finest collection; signed P.L. Pemberton and accompanied by a 1999 BPA certificate; ex-West, D'Arcy Hall, Salisbury and Indhusophon (Scott #7c; $29,000.00). (Image) £28,000

724 O S.G. #14c imageS.G. #14c, 1861 4p Deep bright blue "Wood Block", a most impressive used single with absolutely huge margins, even the bottom margin is exceptionally large as the spacing within the plate on this side is much closer, but even more impressive than the margins is the gorgeous intense color, which is much less often encountered than the pale shades, unusual neat eight line cancel, in every respect an extremely fine gem; nearly all "Wood Blocks" are found with faults or with a less than desirable appearance due to poor margins or obtrusive cancels, the stamp offered here with all its lovely features is truly an exception to the norm and a wonderful opportunity to acquire a great stamp; 1976 RPS and 1998 BPA certificates; ex-Pack and Bonaventure (Scott #9c; $4,750.00).
