Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
65 og 18 image#18, 1c Blue, Ty. I, incredibly well centered amid extravagantly large margins which are most uncharacteristic of this issue, intense color and impression often associated with plate 12 stamps, full o.g. which is just a bit disturbed (although no mention is made on the accompanying certificate), extremely fine; a handsome example of this very scarce mint stamp; clear 1982 PF certificate; ex-Chapin. (Image) 2,000.00

SOLD for $1,300.00

(Image) 3,400.00

67 og 19 image#19, 1c Blue, Ty. Ia, an immensely rare mint example of this type, being a fresh bottom sheet-margin copy, with rich luxuriant color and a sharp detailed impression which shows the type characteristics quite clearly, centered slightly to right but not objectionably so, part o.g., mild diagonal crease and a small tear at top, neither of which affect the stamp's attractive appearance, a highly collectable example of one of the rarest stamps in U.S. philately to find mint; 1960 PF certificate; ex-Ishikawa. (Image) 25,000.00

SOLD for $4,750.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM

71 og 21 image#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, the mint example offered here is one of a very few completely sound original gum copies of Scott #21 in existence, as this exceedingly rare mint stamp is usually found with varying degrees of faults and seldom with original gum, this particularly copy is especially select as it possesses an excellent overall freshness, with strong rich color and a deeply etched impression which clearly shows a wide break at top and a distinct break at bottom, wonderfully well centered, full o.g., h.r., a very fine and choice example of a stamp that is missing in even the most advance collections of mint U.S. stamps; easily one of the rarest stamps in this year's "Premier Sale"; 1957 PF certificate; ex-Chapin. (Image) 12,500.00

SOLD for $9,500.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM
72 O 21 image#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, magnificent quality used example, possessing truly extraordinarily physical attributes that are almost never encountered on this scarce and challenging stamp, not the least of which is its absolutely flawless centering amid large margins which allow all the important type characteristics to show perfectly, including displaying enormously wide breaks in both the top and bottom labels, intense color in a deep shade, plus its impression could not be more detailed on brilliantly white paper, light central strike of a neat rimless grid, extremely fine; one could search for years and never find a used copy of Scott #21 as superb as the stamp offered here; 2003 PF certificate. (Image) 2,200.00

SOLD for $5,250.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM
73 O 21 image#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, position 99R2, an enormously rare used example of this famous position which shows the widest breaks possible at both top and bottom on any Ty. III stamp, quite well centered, rich color in a deep shade, clear impression showing the type characteristics well, very light face-free c.d.s. confined to bottom left corner, virtually free of the flaws which affect the majority of known copies, with only a small corner crease at top left almost unworthy of mention, very fine; one of the great rarities of classic U.S. stamps, as only one unused example is known (contained in a block of nine), and our records suggest there may be fewer than twelve used examples in existence; plated and signed by Stanley B. Ashbrook, as well as being accompanied by a 1995 PF certificate; ex-Chapin. (Image) 10,000.00

SOLD for $18,000.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM

(Image) 2,000.00

SOLD for $2,200.00

75 ng 22 image#22, 1c Blue, Ty. (Image) 900.00

SOLD for $1,400.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM
76 og 23 image#23, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, an incredibly handsome appearing mint example of one of the rarest and most challenging stamps of the 19th century to find in any kind of acceptable quality, possessing absolutely perfect centering (which is unheard of on this) within large margins, plus its color and impression could not be more prooflike on brilliantly fresh paper, full o.g. (another rare occurrence on this), lightly hinged, there are two light creases which in no way affect this stamp's superb overall appearance and are not even mentioned on the accompanying certificate, otherwise extremely fine; a stamp that is on virtually every mint collector's want list; clear 1971 Royal Philatelic Society certificate; ex-Chapin. (Image) 8,500.00

SOLD for $5,000.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM
77 O 23 var. image#23 var. 1c Blue, Ty. IV, bottom line broken, position 89R1L, this position was recut at top but in late printings had a prominent break in the bottom line, in essence making an unusual combination between Type III with broken line and Type IV with recut line, an exceptionally well centered example which shows this variety exceedingly well, deep rich color on bright white paper, with light and unobtrusive black cancel, extremely fine; this variety was highlighted by Ashbrook in his book on the United States One Cent Stamp of 1851-57, as did Neinken stating, "This stamp should be included in any specialized showing of the Type IV stamps", rare as an imperforate, but incredibly rare as a perforated stamp as relative few of the plate 1 stamps were perforated and only a small portion of those were in a state late enough to show the variety; accompanied by detailed notes on a card by Stanley B. Ashbrook and signed by him. (Image) 1,450.00

SOLD for $1,800.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM

(Image) for hinged 175.00

SOLD for $1,050.00
Closing..May-30, 04:00 PM
