465 ogbl 2 image#2, 5c Blue, an amazing half-sheet of fifty (10x5), being far and away the largest multiple of any First Issue Canal Zone stamp, the next largest multiple is the block of 22 of the 2c value (see lot #454), with selvage on all three sides including a full imprint at top and partial imprints at sides, with several of the "Panama" varieties present including the Scott-listed 2 1/4mm below bar (positions 31 and 36) and Colon between right "Panama" and bar at positions 44 and 49, strong color, tropicalized o.g., two stamps in bottom row faulty, insignificant selvage fault at top, some perfs. reinforced with hinges, very fine overall; an incredible multiple that would be one of the highlights of a gold-medal collection of Canal Zone; ex-Helme (CZSG #2, 2.1, 2.2). 480 O 3b image#3b, 10c Yellow, double "Canal Zone" overprint, the top overprint is heavy but slightly smudged, bottom overprint is strong and quite clear, lightly cancelled, small thin spot and faint corner crease, very fine appearance; one of only two known examples of the double overprint, the other one is also used, with one light and one clear overprint and a very light cancel. In Canal Zone Stamps, the authors speculate that the second overprints were applied when the first overprints were thought to be unclear; one of the great error rarities from Canal Zone; 1967 PF certificate; ex-Plass, Drucker and illustrated in Canal Zone Stamps (CZSG #3b).
