1880-1885 Special Printings of the 1879-1883 Issues continued...
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
301 og 205C image#205C, 5c Gray brown special printing, without gum as issued, virtually perfectly centered amid large margins, rich luxuriant color and a razor-sharp impression, completely free of the flaws which affect several of the known copies, fully intact and even perforations, extremely fine gem. An incomparable example of this incredibly rare stamp. A total of only 22 different copies have been certified by the Philatelic Foundation as genuine Five Cent Garfield Special Printings. Because of the extreme rarity of this stamp, very few collectors will ever have a chance to own a copy of this elusive special printing, and fewer still can acquire one in such outstanding quality. Accompanied by a 1949 PF certificate (submitted by J.K. Lilly); ex-Lilly. (Image) 40,000.00
