1523 og S.G. #92 image S.G. #92, 1893-94 1/2p Greenish slate, perforated 10 x nearly 12, a fresh mint single of an immensely rare compound perforation, this was probably the discovery example of this listing, in 1996 it was issued a BPA certificate as S.G. #94a var. (#94a is perforated nearly 12x10), since then Stanley Gibbons has re-numbered to get this with other perf. 10x12 values, a couple more examples are now known, nevertheless one of the most difficult of this issue to acquire, o.g., h.r., centered to the left with fine centering as all known examples possess, this being one of the best, being better centered and with less short perforations than the other known copies; 1996 BPA certificate (Scott #53 var.). Evans collection had two mint examples (one faulty) and a used copy, but it was recognized that he had most of the known copies, this is the nearly sound example (tiny crease at top not mentioned in the Evans description or the certificate) that realized U.S. $1,425.00 in that July 2001 sale, o.g., h.r., centered to the left as are all known examples, a fine and rare stamp; 2001 RPS of Victoria certificate; ex-Col. 1536 og S.G. #139ab image#S.G. #139ab, 1915 1p Carmine, horizontal pair with and without "War Stamp" overprint, fresh example with left sheet margin as usual, o.g., light h.r. reinforcing the perforations which are intact (many of the perforations were crimped in the sheet or strips of twelve as some were originally preserved), very fine. This error occurred when one sheet of 120 had the overprint shifted exactly one stamp to the left producing this error in the right two columns and putting one column of overprints in the selvage at left. Thus only ten examples of this error were originally printed. Of these the top gutter strip of twelve is in the Royal Collection. Three other strips and four pairs including this one are recorded of the remaining nine possible. A lovely and first class rarity of the war tax stamps; 1980 BPA certificate (Scott #MRb; $10,000.00). 1538 ogbl S.G. #233a imageS.G. #233a, 1922 2p Grey, Face Value Omitted, a most striking error being the center stamp in a mint block of nine, the entire block is exceptionally well centered but the error stamp is particularly so, the block retains its original freshness and strong color, o.g., the error is stamp very lightly hinged, a few separated horizontal perforations between the top left and middle left stamps are lightly hinge reinforced, extremely fine. The British printers devised an interesting economy in their printing of the stamps for the many countries within the British Commonwealth. The frame and the head of the King were printed from one plate for all countries and denominations. A second plate was then used to print the country name and the denomination. It is believed that this error resulted from a small piece of foreign matter coming between the plate and the sheet during the printing of this second duty plate. This is evidenced by the fact that the frames and central vignettes are all complete, but in addition to the value tablet being missing on the center stamp, three other stamps in this block have portions of the imprint and value tablets affected. The stamp at left center has a portion of the "d" and value frame missing, the bottom left stamp in the block has the last "I" of "Fiji" and most of the right ornament missing and the stamp at center bottom shows only the bottom portion of "Fiji" and the ornaments at either side. From this it can be deduced that the foreign object was more or less square or rectangular and was probably a piece of paper. This is the singular opportunity for the Fiji collector to acquire this error as this is the unique example that resulted in the listing in Stanley Gibbons. However, it is unique in another sense that has appeal to all collectors of the British Colonies as it is the only missing value tablet for any country that used these King George V designs: 1971 BPA certificate; ex-Melat and Robertson (Scott #98 var.).
