19 P imagePresentation sheet on laid paper with papermaker's watermark ("J Moreby & Co. / 1840"), folded as letter sheet and bearing twenty examples of 1d. in fugitive red colours, endorsed above top row of four stamps "Fugitive ink printed without oil", all stamps with manuscript cross probably denoting their undesirability for use, and above lower four rows of sixteen stamps "Fugitive ink printed without oil" with seven stamps having the ink crosses indicating that these, too, were also unacceptible, "A" through "E" colours represented with permutations of plain paper, plain paper with magnesia, Prussiate in paper, and Tartrate in paper, all in the neat hand of Joshua Bacon, with Treasury reference number "1205" at top left and on reverse dated filing note of Perkins, Bacon & Co.; of the five such recorded sheets, only two or three have stamps with the ink crosses which leads one to surmise that those with manuscript crosses were the only ones presented to Rowland Hill and his other colleagues for consideration. ex-"Tes."
