487 og 356 image#356, 10c Yellow coil, perf. 12 vert., a fabulous quality mint pair of this important coil rarity, possessing virtually perfect centering and with uncharacteristically large margins all around, spectacularly intense color in a much deeper shade than usual, especially clean o.g. that is free of the usual gum bends and skips, lightly hinged, extremely fine; very few Ten Cent 1909 Coils exist in this gem condition; 1997 PF certificate. (Image) 6,000.00

SOLD for $8,000.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
488 O 356 image#356, 10c Yellow coil, perf. 12 vert., a most extraordinary used guide line pair, being the only recorded used line pair of the Ten Cent 1909 Coil, fabulously fresh, with absolutely radiant color and an unusually strong impression on bright paper, marvelously well centered, neat and unobtrusive portion of a town c.d.s. at bottom, very fine and exceedingly choice; a mint line pair of Scott #356 is one of the great rarities of the 20th century, but a used line pair holds an historic place in U.S. philately, as this and the used line strip of four of Scott #388, are the only two Washington-Franklin coils that are unique in used condition; this exciting item has not been on the auction market in well over a decade, hence its listed but unpriced status in the Scott catalog; we have based our estimate on the realization of the unique used line strip of four of Scott #388 which sold in April 2001 as part of the Thurston Twigg-Smith collection (Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, Inc.), having realized $23,100.00 (including premium) after fierce competitive bidding; 1970 PF certificate. (Image) Est. 15,000-20,000

SOLD for $26,000.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM

490 og 359 image#359, 3c Deep violet on bluish paper, wonderfully well centered within uncommonly large margins, strong rich color and a crisp detailed impression, o.g., h.r., a very fine and choice mint example of this rare stamp; 1980, 1998 and 2001 PF certificates. (Image) 2,000.00

Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
491 og 359 image#359, 3c Deep violet on bluish paper, uncharacteristically large margins for this rare stamp, and being quite well centered within them, sumptuously rich color and a crisp impression, o.g. which is just slightly disturbed, very fine. (Image) 2,000.00

Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
492 og 360 image#360, 4c Orange brown on bluish paper, extraordinarily fresh, rich luxuriant color and a deeply etched impression, wonderfully well centered within large margins, full o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine. A highly select example of this important 20th century rarity, possessing far better centering, margins and overall freshness than the vast majority of known examples. This value, along with the Eight Cent from the series, were never intended to be issued to the public. Approximately 90 of each were released in an exchange with the Post Office Department in Washington, D.C. to obtain other rarities for the nation's collection. A rare opportunity to acquire a premium quality original gum Four Cent Bluish Paper. Accompanied by a 1968 PF certificate. (Image) 24,000.00

SOLD for $25,000.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
493 og 360 image#360, 4c Orange brown on bluish paper, rich luxuriant color and a well incised impression, attractively centered, disturbed o.g., very fine. A large number of the approximately 90 examples of the Four Cent Bluish Paper released to the public are found centered to right - often quite severely with their perforations just clearing or cutting the design. This particular example, while centered a bit to right as usual, is well clear of the design and possesses a handsome overall appearance. A stamp that is missing in even the most advanced collections of United States stamps. Accompanied by a 1982 PF certificate. (Image) 24,000.00

SOLD for $12,500.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
494 og 361 image#361, 5c Blue on bluish paper, quite well centered for this rarity, luxuriously rich color and an exceptionally detailed impression, full o.g. which is just slightly disturbed due to hinge removal (not mentioned on accompanying certificate), very fine; neat MeKeel guarantee handstamp on reverse and accompanied by a 1969 PF certificate. (Image) 5,000.00

SOLD for $4,000.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
496 og 362 image#362, 6c Red orange on bluish paper, brilliantly fresh, gloriously rich color in a remarkably intense and vibrant shade, well centered amid uncharacteristically large margins, full clean o.g., lightly hinged, a very fine and exceptionally choice original gum Six Cent Bluish Paper; 1994 PF certificate. (Image) 1,500.00

SOLD for $1,100.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM
497 og 363 image#363, 8c Olive green on bluish paper, magnificently well centered amid margins that are uncharacteristically large, gorgeous intense color and a strong impression on bright paper, minute natural inclusion in right margin barely discernible, full o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine. Of the fewer than 90 examples that exist in private hands, this superlative copy from the Lessin collection is one of the very finest. As the vast majority of these are found off center, the centering of this particular copy stands out as one of its most impressive attributes. But just as impressive are this stamp's lavishly large margins and exceptionally rich color. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the great 20th century rarities in premium condition. Accompanied by a 1961 PF certificate. (Image) 26,000.00

SOLD for $23,000.00
Closing..May-31, 03:30 PM

(Image) 4,500.00

SOLD for $4,000.00
