Brazer's personal set of these rare and handsome proofs, all mounted on mostly full size cards (couple just slightly reduced), includes all values, with an extra example of the 24c in a distinctively different shade and with the addition of the Bank Note imprint at the bottom of the die, the 15c value is a most interesting proof as it is in a shade that clearly would be from the 1879 American Bank Note Company printing (even noted in pencil manuscript by Brazer himself on the reverse), however the Scott catalog does not separately list it in proof form, 1c with trivial edge toning to card, 2c with mild overall tone spotting, rest fresh and very fine; ex-Brazer. "Acapulco/Dec. 8, 1873" at bottom left, as is a choice "Pacific Mail S.S." straightline handstamp in red, sent via Wells, Fargo with their "Paid over our/Mexican Coast and California Express--35 cts." imprint, placed in the U.S. mails with clear strike of brilliant red "New York/Dec 27" c.d.s., red London receiving c.d.s. on front equally well struck, 3c adhesive with small perf. flaws at top, overall a very fine and exceedingly choice example of this rare usage.
