887 c 3a image#3a, 1852 (2p) Grayish slate on blued paper, large even margins, tied by oval barred "1" obliterator on 1854 (Aug. 11) envelope to Philadelphia via British P.O. at St. Thomas (Aug. 15) and Kingston, Jamaica (Aug. 22), rated "1/-" changed to "2" for the double rate, with "New York / Ship / Sep 25 / 12 cts." c.d.s. adjacent, the ship letter fee of 2 cents and U.S. inland single rate of 5 cents (in this instance double rate) to destination beyond the port; the cover, which has been opened out for display, is toned and has a few tiny peripheral faults, nevertheless a very fine and stunning example of the probably unique use of an intact 2 pence stamp on cover which paid the double rate; 1948 R.P.S. certificate; ex-Hurlock and Chan Chin Cheung (S.G. #4a). (Image) Est. 15,000-20,000
