United States Large Lots and Collections
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
842 ogOc The tremendously high cataloging balance of an old-time estate of a few thousand stamps and a small group of covers, being virtually intact as received, filling a carton, the lion's share of the value will be found in two albums containing the mint and used collection from 1847 to 1938 (plus just a few later), filled with numerous high catalog value stamps, just a brief overview reveals used examples of the 1847 Five Cent and Ten Cent, a page filled with imperforate 1851-57 One Cent Blues (including a used strip of six of #9), the 1857-60 issues are strong with numerous shade varieties of the Five Cent value, and we note an unused Ninety Cent, 1869 Pictorials cplt. used, plus several duplicates (such as three Ninety Cent values), 1893 Columbians are extensive, including some proofs and mint multiples, in addition to a complete mint/unused set through the $5.00, with many dollar values duplicated both mint and used (in fact, there are fifteen dollar values present), 1894 and 1895 Bureau issues cplt. (mostly used), 1898 Trans-Mississippis cplt. mostly mint/unused and some additional dollar values used, 20th century commemoratives quite solid and contain all 1913-15 Panama-Pacific values mint, augmented by many better multiples as well, there are two 1917 perf. 11 Five Cent double error blocks, plus many other items too numerous to mention; the basic collection is accompanied by dozens of stock pages with large quantities of 1931 Red Cross and Yorktown commemoratives in plate blocks, plus a stock of 1940 Famous Americans, additionally there is a small stockbook filled common to scarce duplicates, including some interesting revenue items and a small accumulation of mint and used Hunting Permit stamps, all concluding with a small selection of covers that includes a complete set of flown covers franked with the 1930 Graf Zeppelins; the collection has been stored for years following the owner's passing in a basement which, unfortunately, was a bit damp so some of the stamps have been affected by minor foxing, however most of the mint stamps were in mounts so they were largely unaffected, condition overall is very mixed with faults of varying degrees throughout, but there are also many sound salable stamps to be found, and the overall catalog value of this estate will undoubtedly add up to many times our very conservative estimate. Est. 10,000-15,000

843 og/nh 10X2R/893, C1?PR125 #10X2R/893, C1/PR125, The exclusively mint balance of a substantial collection, well over 650 different items all neatly housed in mounts in a single Scott National album, assembled by a collector who desired stamps that were attractively centered and possessed strong fresh colors, the vast majority had to have original gum as well, although never hinging was not of paramount importance, the collection is very sparse in the early material and does not really show strength until the late Bank Note era and thereafter it is filled with many salable stamps, often cataloging hundreds of dollars each, Bureaus and early commemoratives are quite nice with many better stamps, Washington-Franklins are strong, including coils (in singles and pairs), with some dollar values present, the 1917-40 period is nearing completion, back-of-the-book issues include nice representations of air posts, special deliveries, Parcel Posts and a small but nice group of newspaper issues; there are some early issues noted without gum and there is the occasional disturbed gum stamp, however most are clean l.h. stamps and some will even be found n.h., faults are limited to those of a very minor nature and they affect a very small percentage, overall fine-very fine; careful examination is essential to fully appreciate the conservative nature of our estimate; eighteen certificates accompany. Est. 7,500-10,000

White Plains souvenir sheet and a set of 1930 Graf Zeppelins on either flown card or cover (some soiling and cover flaws); mint stamps almost all have o.g., with a large number being n.h., mixed condition on earlier material, and the later material generally runs fine-very fine; a useful assemblage for either the collector or dealer.
