1082 og/nhbl 387a image#387a, 1959 5c St. Lawrence Seaway, Center Inverted, top right corner sheet-margin block of four, the unique top right corner "plate block" position, magnificently fresh and bright, strong rich colors on immaculate paper, each stamp with outstanding centering and margins, full o.g. which is particularly clean (not disturbed as often found on a large percentage of the known errors), top right stamp never hinged, others with only tiny traces of faint hinging, extremely fine. As was the policy of the Canadian Post Office during this time period, sheets of stamps supplied to the various post offices had the selvage inscriptions (and plate numbers) trimmed off to reduce the number of broken panes in post office stocks (caused by collector requests). The only way collectors could obtain plate number blocks were from sheets that were supplied through the Philatelic Service of the post office. The famous Seaway Invert found its way to the public through purchases by customers at regular post office windows, so no "traditional" inscription plate blocks can exist. The accepted "plate block" positions would be blank corner sheet margin blocks, such as the one offered here. We are aware of only two such position blocks in private hands. The other being a top left corner position block (with staple holes in selvage). A showpiece multiple of one of the most famous and most publicized errors of the 20th century. This block was purchased by the owner in the 1985 "Rarities of the World" Sale (Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, Inc.) for $29,700.00, and it is now being offered for the first time since it was acquired. Accompanied by a 1985 PF certificate. (Image) as singles 33,000.00+
