1033 ogbl imageExtraordinarily valuable and high cataloging mint collection/accumulation of many hundreds of items, offered intact exactly as received, being the collection of a private individual which has been donated to the University of Texas at Dallas, for the benefit of the Wineburgh Philatelic Research Library, one of the largest philatelic libraries in the country; this impressive group consists of mint and unused singles, coil pairs and an exceptionally valuable group of blocks and plate blocks, the singles are generally confined to better items of the 19th and early 20th centuries, with very little common material, just scratching the surface we note a part o.g. 1847 5c Red brown (with PFC), an o.g. 1857 3c Rose, Ty. I (PFC), several higher denomination 1869 Pictorials and their re-issue counterparts, including a faulty but fairly attractive disturbed o.g. 90c (PFC), numerous Bank Notes, 1893 Columbians to 30c, Bureau issues, 1898 50c to $2.00 Trans-Mississippis, many Washington-Franklin issues, with scarcer coils noted (a number of which are accompanied by certificates) and we even see a 6c Bluish Paper (APS), strong airposts, with two Graf Zeppelin sets, and concluding with a few back-of-the-book items; even more valuable and impressive than the singles is this accumulation's selection of blocks of four and plate blocks, again all being higher catalog items with very little common material, included is a complete set of mint blocks of four of the 1893 Columbians, including all dollar values, these blocks which alone catalog $62,000.00+, are generally quite fresh, all have o.g. (the $5.00 with slightly disturbed o.g.) and are rather attractive with centering ranging from just fine to a few very fine, other blocks and plate blocks of note include a 5c Columbian plate block of eight, 1898 15c Bureau issue plate block of six, several 1902-03 issue plate blocks, many early commemorate and Washington-Franklin plate blocks, two $5.00 1938 Coolidge and one $5.00 1954 Hamilton plate blocks, plus many others; condition is a bit mixed as one would expect on such a lot, including some early stamps either with no gum or regummed, however a large majority have o.g. (including the Columbian blocks) and any faults are typically small; over 50 various certificates accompany; an exciting lot, especially for dealer who is looking for scarce items to add to their inventory, and this collection/accumulation is particularly well suited for an auctioneer who can break down the material into a mail or internet sale; examination is essential to fully evaluate this lot and to appreciate the conservative nature of our estimate, especially as it relates to catalog value, which undoubtedly approaches or exceeds $200,000.00. 1034 og/nhO 10X1/PR125 The largely mint balance of the Dr. Fred K. Berger collection, many hundreds of stamps, all neatly housed in mounts in a single Scott National album, the main virtue of this collection is that Dr. Berger concentrated his efforts on acquiring stamps that had to be sound, attractive in appearance and, when mint, they had to have original gum, and never hinged whenever possible, while a few early acquisitions crept in that have small faults, the vast majority met his criteria; the collection is rather sparse in 19th century stamps, as so many were lotted individually, however there are a few better stamps in this period (mostly used), from the 1881-82 Bank Notes the collection contains exclusively mint stamps and really picks up in value, a selection of better items of note include the 1890-93 Small Bank Notes cplt. to the 90c, Columbians through the 15c, 1894 unwatermarked Bureau issues and the 1895 watermarked series, both to the 50c, 1898 Trans-Mississippis cplt. to the 10c, virtually all of the commemoratives of the 20th century to 1940 are present, the 1902-03 issue is cplt. to the 15c, then the collection is really solid in all the various Washington-Franklin issues, with coil singles and line pairs augmenting this section, with many stamps cataloging hundreds of dollars each, from 1919 to 1940 the collection contains virtually all of the prerequisite sets, singles and souvenir sheets, back-of-the-book issues include cplt. air posts (less the 1930 Graf Zeppelins), solid special deliveries, postage dues (some very nice stamps), parcel posts, couple of newspaper stamps and concluding with a representative section of C.S.A. stamps; a few flaws will be found throughout the collection, but the great majority are all sound, mint stamps have o.g., and a remarkable number of 20th century stamps are n.h. (including many better items), centering ranges from fine to a number of very fine stamps; a wonderful basis upon which to build; examination highly recommended; 23 certificates accompany. 1035 ogOX 2/O68 #2/O68, Eclectic accumulation of higher cataloging items, 48 in all ranging from used classics to air post plate blocks and unused officials, largely being lots that were once part of a smaller auction but whose catalog values range up to $2,500.00, just a few items of note are a used (repaired) 1847 10c Black with scarce double transfer "B", a mint $2.00 Trans-Mississippi with o.g. (small faults and reperforated at right), a mint n.h. block of four of the 10c Orange yellow Panama-Pacific, five better unused officials including the $2.00 Dept. of State, and concluding with a small range of slightly duplicated air post plate blocks, condition is very mixed with small faults and some regummed stamps to be found; a useful lot for the mail sale dealer. 16,000.00+

1036 ogO Mint and used accumulation in a stockbook of a few hundred items from the 1869 to 1930's period, mostly singles, but there are some imprint strips, plate blocks and booklet panes, this is the type of lot that at first glance does not have a great deal of catalog value, as most of the stamps are not terribly valuable or scarce, however most catalog in the $10.00 to $400.00 each range, and if added up we are certain the entire accumulation will catalog many thousands of dollars, the earlier material is mixed mint and used, with later material being mostly mint, all items have been identified in the stockbook, a few better mint items of note include an 1867 2c "E" grill, 1890 90c Small Bank note, and a 1903 10c Louisiana Purchase; condition is very mixed, ranging from faulty to fine. 1037 ogObl 68/516 #68/516, Small balance of a higher quality consignment, consisting of 38 items neatly housed on black plastic approval cards, with only modest duplication, 19th century consisting entirely of used singles that generally have excellent centering (often with large margins), most are 1861-67 issues and a range of various Bank Notes, among this group we note choice examples of the 1863 2c "Black Jack" and a jumbo-margined 1867 10c "E" grill, the late 19th century (Columbians) and 20th century items are all mint and there are some attractive stamps in this period, including a well centered 30c Columbian (small thin spot), overall the quality is much higher than a typical balance lot, however there are a few with minor flaws, mint stamps with o.g., largely fine-very fine or better. 3,500.00+
