1913 og S.G. #40 S.G. #40, 1893 5/- on 2p Green and carmine, Ty. 12 surcharge in violet, one of the finest mint examples to come on the market in quite some time, as it is quite well centered and with strong colors on fresh paper, o.g., h.r., very fine for this important rarity; among the finest available of the mere 28 printed; signed T. Allen and accompanied by a 1998 BPA certificate (Scott #32; $6,250.00). £8,000

1914 og S.G. #40 S.G. #40, 1893 5/- on 2p Green and carmine, Ty. 12 surcharge in violet, impressively the Gibralter collection has a second choice mint example of this rarity, being unusually well centered and with strong fresh colors on bright paper, o.g., trivial h.r., very fine for this; an exciting opportunity to choose between two equally choice mint examples in the same sale; 1990 Roumet and 1998 BPA certificates (Scott #32; $6,250.00). £8,000

Closed or SOLD for $5,750.00

1915 og S.G. #40 S.G. #40, 1893 5/- on 2p Green and carmine, Ty. 12 surcharge in violet, a third and final mint example of this very rare stamp, being the most affordable of the three, again being rather well centered for this, o.g., with just the slightest trace of soiling, otherwise nearly very fine for this; it is highly unlikely that a single auction in the future will offer 3 of the same stamp of which only 28 were printed and even fewer still exist today; signed A. Diena and accompanied by a clear 1969 BPA certificate (Scott #32; $6,250.00). £8,000

Closed or SOLD for $4,000.00

1916 og S.G. #41 S.G. #41, 1893 10/- on 5p Dull purple and blue, Ty. 12 surcharge in vermilion, a most impressive mint example of this terribly rare stamp, possessing bright and fresh colors, centered a bit to left as are all known genuine examples of this stamp, in fact this is the finest centering we have encountered on this value, o.g., certainly very fine for the issue; only 32 were printed of this value and this surely ranks among the very finest available; 1985 RPS certificate (Scott #33; $6,000.00). £6,000

Closed or SOLD for $3,750.00

1917 og S.G. #41 S.G. #41, 1893 10/- on 5p Dull purple and blue, Ty. 12 surcharge in vermilion, a second mint example in equally impressive quality, possessing strong fresh colors on bright paper, characteristic centering, o.g., trivial h.r., certainly very fine when compared to the minute number of surviving examples; signed Champion and accompanied by a 1998 BPA certificate (Scott #33; $6,000.00). £6,000

Closed or SOLD for $3,500.00

1918 S.G. #43 S.G. #43, 1893 20/- on 1/- Dull green, Ty. 12 surcharge in vermilion, marvelously fresh and bright, with strong color, full clean o.g. that has been relatively lightly hinged, very fine. The "20/-" surcharges of Niger Coast Protectorate rank among the most important rarities of the British Empire, and for that matter the entire world. They are found in three different colors of the surcharges - in violet, vermilion and black. Only a total of ten "20/-" surcharges exist in all colors. The fact that most of the world's preeminent collectors owned, at various times, at least one example of the "20/-" surcharge confirms their status as world class rarities. Ferrari, Hind and Dale-Lichtenstein each owned two different color surcharges, while Col. Green owned all three. The "20/-" surcharge in vermilion offered here, is one of only three confirmed examples in existence. One of the three resides in the Royal Collection, leaving only two copies available to collectors. The other available copy was sold as part of the Isleham collection in 1987 (Christies, March 11, 1987) were it realized $82,500.00. Clearly the highlight of the Gibralter collection and certainly one of the great philatelic rarities of the world. Illustrated in Linn's Philatelic Gems 2. Accompanied by 1934 RPS and 1998 BPA certificates. ex-Ferrari, Hind and Dale-Lichtenstein (Scott #35; $85,000.00). £70,000
