Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1685 ng S.G. #18a imageS.G. #18a, 1897 "2c" on half of 5c Blue and "3c" on half of 5c Blue, red manuscript surcharge, an enormously rare unsevered pair of the 5c stamp bearing both surcharges, the typical production method of these Kuala Lipis provisional bisects was to first bisect the stamps and then to surcharge them, however in this exception to the rule, the top left and bottom right corners were first initialed, and then the surcharge numerals added (apparently by different clerks as the inks slightly differ), with the "2c" surcharge being "inverted", and the pair was then never separated; unused, diagonal crease, still of extremely fine appearance; one of only two recorded unused unsevered examples in existence, making this one of the most important items in Malaysian philately; signed H. Bloch; ex-Asch (Scott #21, 22; unlisted). (Image) £8,000

Closed or SOLD for $4,250.00

1686 og S.G. #18d imageS.G. #18d, 1897 "3c" on diagonal half of 5c Blue, red manuscript surcharge, an exceptionally choice mint example which is a wonderful "mate" in quality to the "2c" surcharge offered in the previous lot, bright color, well centered, o.g., relatively lightly hinged, very fine and quite scarce, particularly in this quality; signed H. Bloch and accompanied by a 1977 PF certificate (Scott #22; $850.00). (Image) £1,000

1688 og S.G. #25b imageS.G. #25b, 1898 "Pahang Four cents" surcharge on 8c Dull purple and ultramarine, double surcharge, an exceptionally well centered example of this scarce error, which occurred from the attempt to improve upon a very light initial first impression, part o.g. (most existing examples have no gum or have tissue interleaving adhering), extremely fine; signed Thier (Scott #25 var.). (Image) £650

1690 og S.G. #27 imageS.G. #27, 1898 "Pahang/Five cents" and bars on interleaving paper, unused, without gum as issued, a handsome example of this scarce provisional which was proposed for the anticipated 5c rate, which never materialized, very fine; 1988 Brandon certificate (Scott #27; $900.00). 1691 ng S.G. #1 imageS.G. #1, 1878 2c Brown, overprinted "P" surmounted by Crescent and Star in oval, this overprint on a Straits Settlements stamp was used to identify letters from Perak sent to other portions of the Straits, and typically mint/unused examples were rarely saved, unused, rich color, fine; one of the very few genuine examples we have ever seen; signed H. Bloch; ex-Asch (Scott #1; $1,400.00). (Image) £1,300

1694 ng S.G. #32 imageS.G. #32, 1887 "1 CENT PERAK" surcharge Ty. 29 on 2c Rose, a terribly elusive unused example of this rare surcharge type, rich color, attractively centered, accompanying certificate states than an initial shows through from the back which has subsequently been removed, very fine; quite undercataloged in our opinion considering how infrequently this stamp is offered; 1969 PF certificate (Scott #18; $900.00).
