1166 O 29a Image#29a, 1875 10k Brown and blue, Center Inverted, an attractive used example of this important rarity, featuring deep luxuriant colors and strong impressions, quite well centered for the issue, neat portion of a town c.d.s. at bottom, couple of small flaws (minor thin spot and slightly rounded corner at top left) which neither detract from its very fine appearance, nor its desirability given how few are known to exist.

This stamp ranks among the greatest rarities of the world, with only five examples recorded - all of which are used. As such, this is not only an indispensable rarity for the finest collection of classic Russian stamps, but is also one of the most important stamps to seek out for the most advanced collector of inverted centers of the world.

A spectacular rarity that has graced the collections of several famous collectors such as Ferrary, Rothschild, Goss and Cunliffe; accompanied by a 2009 PF certificate (Michel #27xK; €50,000). (Image)

1167 O 70a Image#70a, 1904 7R Black and yellow, vertically laid paper, Center Inverted, a seldom seen used example of this famous Russian rarity, being one of only two known used copies, deep rich colors, centered to bottom (as always) and a bit to left, light neat "Batum/22.11.17" c.d.s., small thin spot of little consequence, still quite fine; the Scott catalog has placed the same $7,500.00 valuation for either a mint or used example of this stamp, despite the fact that used copies are far more rare, the Michel catalog gives a considerably higher premium for used examples, pricing them at double a mint copy; signed Mikulski and accompanied by his 2003 certificate; ex-Mikulski, Cunliffe (Michel #56yK; €15,000). Image#87gh var., 1918 1R Pale brown, brown and red orange, imperforate, horizontal lozenges of varnish on face, Groundwork Double, One Inverted, a most amazing and striking complete sheet of 50, displaying a second strong overall impression of the groundwork, however it is inverted and is strongly displaced to top right, leaving two stamps at bottom right completely normal, but all other stamps with portions (or completely covered) with a second inverted impression, huge sheet selvages all around, showing plate number "6" at bottom left, o.g., stamps never hinged, hinged in the sheet selvages only neat vertical crease between the sixth and seventh rows, very fine; this variety is unlisted in both Scott and Michel, and is believed to be unique as a sheet; ex-Cunliffe (Michel #77Bx var.). 1169 nhbl 131d, 131e Image#131d, 131e, 1917 1R Pale brown, brown and red orange, imperforate, Groundwork Double, One Inverted, a most remarkable complete sheet of 56 (50 stamps and 6 labels), with the entire sheet showing the groundwork inverted, then there is a second impression of the groundwork which is inverted and shifted dramatically downward and a bit diagonally, leaving the top two rows without a double impression, sheet selvages large and intact, exceptionally bright and fresh overall, some really minor bends and wrinkles, single corner crease at top left only affecting one label, otherwise o.g., never hinged, very fine; while the Scott catalog has separate listings for each of the groundwork inverted and groundwork double errors, they do not list a combination of both which this impressive sheet displays; ex-Cunliffe (Michel #77BxK3 var.).
