868 og RU1d Image#RU1d, Caterson Brontz & Co., 5c Brown on watermarked paper, an extraordinary offering of the rarest of all Playing Card stamps and certainly one of the rarest of all Private Die Proprietary stamps, being a mint single of which only three are known to exist, wonderfully fresh, with full o.g. that has a small paper h.r. (trace of a faint thin speck below h.r.), because the stamp was so poorly centered during its production (horizontal perfs. at bottom shifted into the design), legend has it that the engraver of the stamps trimmed the stamps so that his design would remain intact, and this is true of the stamp offered here and the one offered in the Joyce collection, however this is the better margined of the two as its design is virtually intact (Joyce copy is well cut in at bottom), plus this copy still retains its perforations at bottom, very fine; one of the key rarities of the Frank L. Himpsl collection; a 1988 PF certificate was issued for this stamp but no longer accompanies; ex-"Donaldson". (Image) $10,000.00

SOLD for $10,500.00

PRIVATE DIE PROPRIETARY STAMP COLLECTIONS
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
869 OogPc   Valuable balance of the Frank L. Himpsl private die proprietary collection in five binders, neatly mounted on Mr. Himpsl's own pages, includes the basic stamps on the various different papers, with many elusive stamps cataloging hundreds of dollars each, plus there even some cataloging up to a couple thousand dollars each, these very high cataloging items being either in condition below the norm, or in some cases there were two copies present, with the better example being offered individually and the lesser quality (but still quite saleable) one left in this balance, in addition to the basic stamps, there is a plethora of related items, such as varieties (double transfers, shades), a few multiples, cancels (including the company's cancel on proprietary stamps), covers with the company corner card (some illustrated), numerous trading cards, proofs (both die and plate), essays, company's letterhead stationery, and more; therefore this collection is not only valuable because of the enormous catalog value (exceeding $100,000.00), but the myriad of "extra" items make this an opportunity that should not be missed. Est. $20,000-30,000

SOLD for $47,500.00
