1102 Oc   Gold Coast cancellations study of a couple hundred largely Queen Victoria issues mounted and annotated on quadrilled pages in an Elbe album, starts with barred oval type with "554" (Accra), "556" (Cape Coast Castle) and "B27" (Quittah), then boxed "Elmina/Paid", Elmina, Secondee and Addah (unlisted) negative ovals, crown circle above date c.d.s. of Koforidua and Ussmert, then a detailed study of the circular date town postmarks, with such places as Danoe, Tarkwa, Victoriaborg, Half Assinie, Kpong, Pram Pram, Prestea, Beyin, Chama, Dixcove, Appam, Attuab, Axim, Berraku, Aburi, Ada, Akropomg, Salt Pond, Winnebah, Mumford, Adjuah, Akuse and many others represented, all the above generally with multiple copies, often of different denominations, also includes a range of stamps, with a few mint, and many used with small town cancels, especially among the George VI, plus a couple dozen mostly George V and VI covers, again with some town cancels, also included are twelve unused picture postcard produced by Raphael Tuck & Sons; a highly delightful lot for the specialist which would be difficult to duplicate. 1103 c   Great Britain pre-stamp cover collection and accumulation, about 230 mostly eighteenth and nineteenth century covers, 110 of which are mounted and written-up on pages in three Elbe binders, the rest being mounted on loose pages or loose, all filling a good sized carton, and there is a vast range of markings, origins and destinations, starts with an 1580's Corsini correspondence cover from London to Venice and continues with Bishop marks, Dockwra types, General Posts, London District, Provincial Penny Posts, Uniform Penny Posts, Two-penny Posts, Free letters and franks, handstamps showing mileage, many town cancels, Foreign Office, etc., and ending with a Mulready and an 1840 2d blue cover, a few fronts only and some faults, mostly fine-very fine covers and strikes. ITALY (VENICE) COLLECTION

1105 c   Italy - Republic of Venice fifteenth century cover collection, this collection of 38 covers dates back over 500 years, from the time Venice was the trading center of the Mediterranean and the covers were delivered by messengers, this was the real beginning of the postal system that we know today, for a while these runners and/or ships delivered mail for merchants who displayed their "hall", "guild" or trade marks on the front of the cover, it was a long step forward from the ancient mails that were maintained for the use of the rulers and high nobility as well as high military officers, the collection is mounted on album pages and annotated and includes covers to Alexandria, Crete, Damascus, etc., and from Austria, Crete (including one to Turkey), Syria (Laodicea to Amman and Beyrouth to Damascus) for example, all in a remarkable state of preservation, most with guild marks and/or paid marks with string fasteners and seal, in addition there are 30 sixteenth century covers from the Corsini correspondence sold by Robson Lowe in the early 1980's (mainly to Florence) and 20 later stampless cover with handstamped markings, mainly relating to Venice including "CFC" courier markings, generally very fine; a superb lot for internet resale.
