BALANCE OF THE CUNLIFFE COLLECTION
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1374 PogOblc   The fascinating and diverse balance of the Robert H. Cunliffe Collection of Inverted Stamps of the World, an extraordinarily desirable and exciting balance of a legendary collection, being all of the foreign (non-United States) stamps Mr. Cunliffe collected over five decades, primarily consisting of the lower and medium priced items, but filled with a few thousand items, each selected for having some portion of the design being inverted, predominantly inverted centers, but there are many other items as well, as seen throughout this catalog, such as inverted numerals on the reverse of the classic stamps of Greece, or inverted network background on stamps from the German Occupation of Alsace and Lorraine, there are several specialty items as well, including proofs and some covers, material from all four corners of the world are represented, with strong sections of Italian areas, Latin America, Russia, etc., most of the stamps are either neatly mounted in two albums or placed neatly in stockcards or on old sales sheets, plus there is a little unsorted material; suffice it to say, there has never been a collection lot filled with so many inverted stamps sold as a single lot, as such it represents the perfect opportunity to begin an exceptional collection of this, the most popular stamps in philately; condition overall is relatively high, with not a lot of faulty stamps, largely fine-very fine; examination is essential to fully appreciate this usual opportunity.
