1895 BUREAU ISSUE WITH U.S.I.R. WATERMARK IN ERROR

The Philatelic Foundation has certified only four original gum singles and this pair. This particular pair is unique in two ways: it is the only recorded mint multiple and the only example that shows a plate number. Therefore, this is the only way a plate block collector can obtain a copy of #271a. While a mint single may occasionally find its way into the marketplace, the offering of this pair may be a once-in-a-lifetime event - Mr. Cunliffe purchased this in 1965 and it has been residing in his collection ever since. An outstanding showpiece for the Bureau specialist, plate block collector or for the connoisseur of classic errors. Accompanied by a 1959 PF certificate. Cataloged simply as two hinged singles. (Image) $25,000.00+
