This return leg in "Comte de Vaux" was scheduled for Jun. 7 1930, but after 35 failed attempts to take off, mail was transferred to boat for the crossing. The covers were destined for Italy, Spain, France & Germany. All are handstamped with the cachet "AEROPOSTALE/PRIMER CORREO AEREO DIRECTO/AMERICA-EUROPA/AVIADOR MERMOZ/7 JUNIO 1930" in purple or red. The 4 Jun. 1930 cover to Germany was carried by Mermoz on the 'successful' second attempt of 8 Jul, though the plane put down on the sea 700km short of Dakar and sank!
