image RED OVERPRINT: 'W.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Rouletted 2d bright vermilion SG DO588, rouletting on all sides, slight oxidisation but still of bright colour, very fine GPO cds of 'AP14/68' (in the first month of issue), Cat £600. Rated RRRR; unrecorded unused. Ex Victor Bullock: sold for $1570 (Sale 130 Lot 587). RPSV Certificate (2007). The very fine 'Tamiami' and Don Pearce examples sold for $685 (Sale 236 Lot 705) and $2035 (Sale 247 Lot 844) respectively. Absent from the Vestey and 'Besancon' collections. Ex Baron von Ferrary, Theodore Champion and Philip Croker. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2009) states "extremely rare". The Vestey and 'Besancon' examples sold for £780 and SFr725 respectively. image BLACK OVERPRINT: 'W.' on QV De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Rouletted 2d dull red-orange Printed on Both Sides SG DO589a, the pale original printing on the 'reverse' showing portions of four units & Inverted Relative to the Face and consequently with the Watermark Inverted, rouletting on all sides, GPO cds of 'DE16/68'. Rated RRRR: unrecorded unused. Ex Rev James Mursell, Colonel Napier (III) and Don Pearce: sold for $1135 (Sale 247 Lot 846). Absent from all the other major collections including Gary Diffen's Errors and the only example we have recorded. [The date range including the normal stamp is 16.12.1868 to 9.9.1870] (Image1)

Underrated at S. The Les Munn and 'Sir Humphrey' (Brian Farmer) examples sold for $287 (Sale 110 Lot 920) and $310 (Sale 118 Lot 594) respectively. Don Pearce's example - also with the overprint misplaced; on piece - sold for $380 (Sale 247 Lot 847). [Date range 3.11.1870 to 22.7.1873] (Image1)
