image 1861 5c olive green, stones A or B, a cover with an amazing horizontal strip of four, with wide margins all around (right stamp wrinkled when applied on cover), tied to attractive and fresh yellow-brown cover by pencil cancellation, with ms 5c postage due, sent to a member of the 6th Reg’t Virginia Cavalry. This spectacular strip is one of the largest used multiples of the stamp on cover. Our review of the Siegel auction archive has not revealed anything of a comparable nature; certainly a very important item of the Confederate States. (Image)
