POSTAL HISTORY: 1885-88 Trans-Pacific mail to New South Wales at the 12c Treaty Rate comprising 1) 5c Envelope uprated with 2c brown + 5c sepia from Seattle; 2) with 2c brown x4 + 4c green from San Francisco; 3) from a wholesale druggist in New York with 5c only, fragment of Deficient Postage label on the reverse, 2c + another 5c added the next day; and 4) 5c Envelope from 'HECKATOO/ARK' with 'Short Paid' in rosine & mss "Due 7c", 'DEAD SECTION/ST LOUIS MO' backstamp in rosine, no evidence of the fine being paid but Sydney arrival backstamp of JA10/89; minor blemishes.
