Free Philippines, Guerrilla Postal Service, 1943, 2c blue. Tied by large purple "Posted in the Free Philippines, Mindanao Guerilla Area, 7 Jan, 1945" oval datestamp on cover addressed to APO 501 in Brisbane, Australia, "Passed by Army Examiner, Base 0173" examiner handstamp at lower left, Very Fine, a very rare, Very Fine and rare use of this private WWII military issue. Estimate; $1,000 - 1,500.
With only 500 stamps were issued and 36 covers known, all known uses are from military men. This cover was sent from Col. Charles Parsons, who was a party leader in the Allied Intelligence Bureau.
President Manuel Quezon ordered the printing of the two centavos blue for use between Guerilla units in the Free Philippines for the identification and other purposes. Due to Japanese pressure in all areas, the plan was not carried out and only Mindanao was able to use it. US$1,000-1,500 (Image)
