Cat No: G $1 1935A Exp pair
(2) A pair of 1935A $1 Experimental notes marked "R" & "S" (F-1609 & F-1610) both VG at best but w/ no other issues but extensive wear. A different type of paper was used for part of the $1 notes in the series 1935A. An "R" and an "S" were surcharged in red on the face of the notes. The experiment was confined to the S-C block of notes and only 1,184,000 of each type were printed. "R" was supposedly the "regular" paper, and "S" represented the "special" paper. They were released to circulation on June 20, 1944 to test their relative durability. Nothing conclusive was ever drawn from the experiment, and the two present notes provide some evidence that the wearing qualities of both types of paper used was the same. (Image)
