"Lang" may be an abbreviation for Lang Suan, a town on the Thai Isthmus near the Burmese border. More intriguingly, it may refer to Langkawi Island, Malaysian territory that lies only some 30km from the Thailand/Perlis border. The Japanese certainly occupied Langkawi during World War II.
