OVERPRINTED THICK 'OS': 1876-85 QV Perkins Bacon Broad Star Wmk Perf 11½-12½ 6d Prussian blue as SG O25 but Imperforate, good even margins, very lightly cancelled. Unlisted by Gibbons. Absent from Gary Diffen's collection, and believed to be the only recorded example. Ex Don Pearce: sold for $898 (Sale 249 Lot 1458). It might be thought that perforations have been trimmed from all sides of this stamp. However, stamps with perforations clear of the design on all sides are extremely elusive and we consider the likelihood of perfs having been removed from this stamp to be extremely low. We share Don Pearce's confidence that this is a genuine error. (Image1)
