image Newfoundland: 4 pence Type A group of 5 black and white photo exposures showing Sperati's technique to remove the genuine postmark., Sperati was not able to copy a mint example of the genuine stamp so he carefully removed the cancel of a used copy and blank spots were later covered with a fake postmark. He produced photo prints in reverse and positive at various points in the process to check his work. Rare examples of one of the master's techniques and his meticulous efforts to perfect his "reproductions" Notes on front and reverse. Very fine. ex. Walske.
