New Orleans as Depicted in Postcards. An expert’s lifetime collection of over 1,100 posted and unposted cards mounted in archival plastic pages and housed in four binders. Mainly F-VF. Organized into categories such as the French Quarter and Market, Canal Street, St. Charles Avenue, Parks and Cemeteries, Riverboats, Levees, Mardi Gras, and Downtown buildings. Features thorough representation of collector-favorite types of postcards, including private mailing, undivided back, white border, linen, and chrome. The consignor estimates that the lot contains 50% private mailing or white border cards, 40% linen cards, and 10% chrome cards. Be sure to take note of the many postcards featuring early Black Americana subject matter. Also of interest are the plentiful postmarks, stamps, auxiliary markings, etc. One of the most ambitious, most selective holdings of New Orleans postcards we have ever had in an auction. (Image)
