AREQUIPA: 1884 Coat of arms 5c. blue with "AREQUIPA" overprint between 2 circles, franking a cover sent to France, with straightline cancel "ARE (QUIPA)", on back there is a transit mark of Callao 27/FE/1884 and Paris arrival of 12/MAR. The postage was insufficient (it was 11 cents), so it received the due mark "T" inside double circle and on arrival in France it received a postage due stamp of 60c. (Sc.J10, value on cover US$1,350). At that time 1c. of sol was equivalent to 5 centimes, thus the dues were 6c. x5 = 30 Ctmes x 2 = 60 Ctmes. NOTE: The postage due stamp is used in the period of the subsequent issue (Duval type), out of its time. All the same it is a very rare cover sent from the interior of Peru to Europe in those years, ex-Herbert Moll. (Image)
