2006 Kapa Haka (Maori Culture) 45c Poi self-adhesive pair from a booklet with the backing paper. Note that because the design extends beyond the die-cut 'perforations', this is visually a different item from the self-adhesive 'coil' stamp. Unlisted by Campbell Paterson and Gibbons on the basis that they were not officially issued. By that reasoning, any number of other stamps including Germany's Audrey Hepburn & Cigarette stamp should be delisted. Glen Stephens 'Certificate of Guarantee' (undated); our vendor paid $4525 in 2010. It is believed that only 11 booklets of 10 were released by NZ Post. However, several of these have been split into singles and pairs, such as here. We sold a complete booklet - five pairs - in our auction of 30.3.2012 for $10,925 (Sale 172 Lot 340).
One of the most controversial stamp releases of recent times. We say "release" because New Zealand Post cancelled the issue only days before they were to go on sale on 7.6.2006. However, they had already sent out a number of mail orders to private individuals: surely that is an "official issue". NZ Post then 'requested' those clients to return the stamps, and claim that they did in fact receive stamps back from two clients. (Image1)

1934 (Dec 3) Canadian cover to New Zealand with typed endorsement "Canada to New Zealand/per Capt Chas TP Ulm" and 3c Cartier tied by 'MOOSE JAW/SASK' machine cancel, sent within the accompanying cover with Canada 10c only - two other stamps lost - with very fine Moose Jaw R cachet & 'A R'-in-circle cachets, to "Captain CTP Ulm/Oakland Flying Field/Oakland/Calif" with backstamps including 'M.JAW.& CAL.R.P.O/No4' and 'SAN FRANCISCO CALIF/DEC/7/1934/REG DEL' cds (four days after Ulm had departed), forwarded to Sydney with arrival backstamp of '1JA35'.
On 3.12.1934, Ulm left Oakland in the 'Stella Australia' for Hawaii and onwards to New Zealand. He never arrived in Hawaii. Our vendor advises that no other covers have been recorded that were supposed to be on the flight but arrived too late at Oakland. Brian Peace does record a single cover flown by Ulm from Midland TX on 24.11.1934 that has a typed endorsement regarding the intended USA-NZ flight. (Image1)
