image Sue City: 'SUE CITY/3FE60/NSW-AUST' largely very fine strike on 1/- Lyrebird on real photo PPC of the settlement to California dated "JAN 28" suggesting the PO may not have operated every day. PO 5.1.1959; closed 8.12.1961. Commercial or social mail from any of the short-lived Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electricity Scheme POs is very scarce. The sender was apparently the daughter of an engineer employed by one of the American contractors, probably the Henry J Kaiser Corporation. See 'Here Today - Gone Tomorrow: the Temporary [Snowy Scheme] POs' by American-born Mark Diserio, whose father was an engineer on the Snowy, & who lived at Sue City for two years. image OVERPRINTED 'OS':  1887-90 Overprinted 'POSTAGE' in Blue £1 mauve & claret overprinted 'O S' Type 1 SG O38, poorly-centred as always, small closed scissor-cut at lower-left, untidy Sydney duplex cancels, Cat £19,000. RPSV Certificate (2002). This is the rarest face-different stamp of all the Australian Colonies and the Commonwealth! Only nine examples - three unused and six used, one of which is in the Royal Collection - are recorded. On this basis it should be worth more than the Queensland Two Corners 6d ($25,000+) of which some 18 examples are known. Absent from such important collections as John White, 'Carrington' (Mark Dankin), Sir Gawaine Baillie, 'Chartwell', 'Besancon' and 'Dubois'. The inter-Colonial rate was 2d per ½oz, this item weighing up to 4oz (unusually on an envelope that will nicely fit on an album page). (Image1)
