Ephemera
Sale No: 463
Lot No: 1022

Cat No: northwest Arkansas

image Original family Illinois Civil War correspondence between a husband and wife from 1862-1865 in a medium box. Over 300 letters from Martin Luther Moore and his wife Joanna who lived in Bloomington Illinois. The husband served in the 94th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry from McLean County, Illinois. This regiment saw action in the Battle of Prairie Grove (northwest Arkansas), Siege of Vicksburg, Battle of Brownsville (Texas), Fort Morgan (Mobile Bay) and operations against Mobile, Alabama. Some husband’s addresses were from “on board steamship St. Mary”, Brownsville, Texas, Benton Barracks, Missouri, Carrollton, Arkansas, Franklin Creek, Mississippi, Head Quarters, Mobile Point, AL, Camp near Carrollton (neighborhood in New Orleans today) etc. It appears most of these letters were sent by the husband from the areas where this regiment was engaged. One letter mentioned the Death of Abraham Lincoln. Some letters have been transcribed. Condition varies having various stages of soiling, but the letters appear to be intact. Also, there are a few covers attached to the letters but unfortunately the stamps have been cut off. Likewise includes two family photos and pertinent family information on a small piece of paper. This family correspondence has never been on the market until now. A must for Illinois or Mc Lean County Civil War historian. (Image)
