image CAROLINE ISLANDS: 1899 'Karolinen' Diagonal Overprints (48 degrees) on German Reich Eagle 50pf brown SG 6 (Michel 6 I), partial '[PONAPE]/11 5/00/KAROLINEN' cds, Cat £2250 (€1800). Ronald Steuer Certificate (2001). A very scarce stamp: only 4,000 of the 50pf were so overprinted & they were on issue for only seven months, before the 56 degrees overprint were issued in May 1900. image CAROLINE ISLANDS: 1910 Provisional Surcharge '5 Pf' on Yacht 3pf brown SG 26 (Michel 7 Pv) tied to small piece of Ponape picture postcard by complete 'PONAPE/(KAROLINEN)/12 7/10' cds, Cat £7500 for used (€3500 on piece). Heinrich Köhler Certificate (1937) with hand-drawn (!) illustration. The arrival of a German naval squadron led to the exhaustion of 5pf & 10pf stamps, the former being replaced with this overprint, the latter by bisecting 20pf stamps. (Image1)
