This was a "rush job" operation as Pres. Roosevelt signed a bill on June 13, 1934 to drop airmail rates from 8¢ down to 6¢ beginning July 1. The BEP began printing these new 6¢ stamps on June 28 and some Post Offices received them on June 29. Since July 1 was Sunday and Post Offices would be closed, some were sold on June 30, but should have had extra postage on them (Image)
