"The Lighthouse" was probably inspired by his many hours at Portland Head Light. The Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in Maine, erected in 1791. This stamp features an incredible remarque by Ken Michaelsen, encompassing the lighthouse, rocky shore line, and Atlantic Ocean all serving as a perfect compliment to the Canada geese on the stamp. The remarque flows from the selvage on to the stamp, creating one creatively blended scene. You could easily forget that the actual stamp design has none of the added elements. RW21RC,1954 Ring-necked Duck, A ring-necked duck is a compact duck with a peaked head, a grey bill with a white band, a shiny purple head, a white breast, yellow eyes and a dark grey back. The ring-necked duck does have a "ringed neck," but the cinnamon neck ring is usually difficult to observe. All these striking details of the duck, however, are very clear in this recognition remarque by Ron Jenkins. On Harvey Sandstrom's stamp, Jenkins has colored in the background of the black and white stamp and added a drake and hen in full color in the selvage.
