image 1939 Imperial Airways crash cover, Kitchener, Ont cds (Aug 2 39) ties 1¢ Mufti, 1¢, 3¢ Royal Visit on cover to Geneva, Switzerland paying 5¢ UPU letter rate. The mail was carried by Imperial Airways Lockheed 14-WF62 Super Electra which experienced an engine failure over France, catching on fire and landing in a field at Saint-Sauveur, Luxeuil-les-Bains. The crew and passengers escaped without fatalities but the plane was completely burnt. A post office facing slip with explanation and Basel postmark (15 VIII 39) accompanies.
