POSTAL HISTORY: 1898 (Aug 15) 'HMS ROYALIST' envelope to Sydney, Australia with Queen Makea Takau 1d blue & 1½d lilac and White Tern 6d purple tied by 'COOK ISLANDS/RAROTONGA' double-ring cds (month 'AU' inverted), 'R'-in-oval cachet at upper left, 'REGISTERED/No____/23AU98/AUCKLAND' transit backstamp, a couple of minor blemishes. BPA Certificate (1975). The Corvette 'Royalist' was converted to a Survey Ship in 1873, and visited Rarotonga from 11.8.1898 to 17.8.1898. (Image1)
